Background
China Post scheduled to issue a set of one commemorative stamp themed "Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation" on May 14, 2017, with a face value of 1.20 yuan.

The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was held in Beijing, China from May 14 to 15, 2017. Centered on the theme of "Enhancing International Cooperation, Co-building the 'Belt and Road' and Realizing Win-win Development", the forum focused its discussions on the five key pillars of policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds, covering important areas such as infrastructure interconnection, economic and trade cooperation, industrial investment, energy and resources, financial support, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, ecological conservation and maritime cooperation. By hosting this forum, China aimed to work with all relevant parties to advance the construction of the "Belt and Road", lay a solid foundation for long-term cooperation that benefits people, and jointly create a better future.

The water pattern elements on the "Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation" commemorative stamp symbolize wealth and the Maritime Silk Road, while the auspicious clouds represent the Silk Road on Land, embodying the philosophy that water nourishes all things, as well as the spirit of inclusiveness and harmony. The city silhouettes at the bottom of the stamp integrate ancient civilization sites with modern architectures, reflecting the active response of all parts of China to the national "Belt and Road" Initiative. They also demonstrate China’s aspiration to work hand in hand with countries along the routes to co-build the "Belt and Road", so as to realize the shared vision of peace, development and prosperity. Elements such as the Huabiao (ornamental columns), high-speed railways, ocean-going cargo ships and large aircraft reflect the achievements of China’s scientific and technological development, symbolize the bridges and ties connecting China with the rest of the world, and at the same time interpret the five-pillar main theme of the forum.

The "Belt and Road" is the abbreviation of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. The Belt and Road Initiative, together with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Strategy and the Yangtze River Economic Belt Development Strategy, is known as China’s "Three Major Strategies". To better showcase the strategic vision of the "Belt and Road", strengthen cultural confidence and highlight the national spirit, China Post issued special stamps featuring the Maritime Silk Road as a key theme in 2016. In addition, to demonstrate the important role of Silk Road culture in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, China Post also released special stamps themed Xuanzang, and planned to issue special stamps themed Zhang Qian in 2017. Since ancient times, the Silk Road has been a path for civilization mutual learning and friendly cooperation. Long before 2013, China Post had issued a number of stamps with Silk Road themes, including 580th Anniversary of Zheng He's Voyages to the Western Seas, 600th Anniversary of Zheng He's Voyages to the Western Seas, Ancient City Site of Loulan and The Silk Road. These stamps connect the past and the present with far-reaching influence; by drawing on the historical symbol of the Silk Road, they further interpret the grand strategic vision of the "Belt and Road" and continue the touching stories of cultural exchanges between China and other countries in the world.
