On May 20, 2012, China Post issued the commemorative stamp for the "110th Anniversary of Nanjing University" with catalog number 2012-10. The set consists of one stamp, titled "110th Anniversary of Nanjing University," with a face value of 1.20 yuan. The stamp was designed by Liu Zhao, with Chen Jingzhi serving as the responsible editor. It was printed by Shenyang Post and Telecommunications Printing Factory in Liaoning Province using offset printing, incorporating anti-counterfeiting paper, anti-counterfeiting ink, shaped perforations, and fluorescent spray codes. The stamp was issued on the university's official anniversary, commemorating its journey through three centuries and reflecting the development of modern higher education in China.

Nanjing University traces its origins to Sanjiang Normal School, founded in 1902. It subsequently underwent several transformations, including Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeastern University, and National Central University, before officially adopting the name Nanjing University in 1949. During the nationwide restructuring of higher education institutions in 1952, the university spun off its engineering, agriculture, and teacher training faculties, while incorporating the arts and sciences faculties of Jinling University, continuing its academic legacy. Over the past century, Nanjing University has attracted numerous distinguished scholars and pioneered many emerging academic disciplines in China. With a deep-rooted scholarly tradition, it has steadfastly upheld its motto of "Sincerity, Simplicity, Grandeur, and Diligence," cultivating a large number of outstanding talents for the nation. It stands as one of China's oldest comprehensive research universities.

The stamp adopts a vertical composition with a warm tone that evokes the texture of antique rice paper, creating a scholarly and dignified atmosphere. The bottom of the design features the iconic North Building (Beida Lou) of Nanjing University, a landmark of the Gulou campus. A gradient number "110" emerges in the center, flanked by the eight-character university motto in the calligraphy of Hu Xiaoshi. The upper portion prominently displays the shield-shaped university emblem, which incorporates elements such as the cedar tree, books, and the bixie mythical creature, carrying the cultural significance of the campus. The right side of the stamp vertically displays the commemorative text and the years 1902–2012. The design integrates historical architecture, the university emblem, the motto, and anniversary elements, balancing historical depth with a contemporary sensibility.
