Stamp Design and Historical Background

120th Anniversary of the Paris Commune

The main subject is the Communards' Wall, with a red flag silhouette as an accompaniment. After the failure of the Paris Commune, large numbers of Communards died heroically at this wall in Père Lachaise Cemetery. The Communards' Wall has become an enduring historical symbol of the Paris Commune and an iconic symbol of proletarian revolutionary struggle.

Artistic and Design Features

The overall tone is deep and solemn, and the composition is simple and concise. Using a combination of realistic and symbolic artistic techniques, it highlights the core image of the Communards' Wall. The striking and powerful red of the flag contrasts with the relatively substantial background, enhancing the tragic and solemn historical atmosphere. The image is plain yet full of strength.
